New locomotive: TMB Class 1000

The Class 1000 trainsets were built by catalan companies M.T.M. and Macosa, using as the base for their work the designs made by german companies M.A.N. and Brown Boveri. The 10 first cars (1001 to 1010) were built at Germany, and arrived Barcelona by ship in 1970.

Due to their great results, more trains of this class were bought, which became the new Class 1100, despite the vehicles are almost identical.

These trainsets started to run in twin car convois, but very soon they were changed to double its original trainset composition, running in sets formed by four cars.

The real specifications for this vehicle were (taken from WEFER.COM, in spanish/catalan):
  • Units built: 50 Class 1000 and 54 Class 1100
  • Total length: 16.85 m
  • Total weight: 29.9 t
