New locomotive: TMB Class 2000

The Class 2000 trainsets were built in 1992 to grant the service in the subway line #3 during the Barcelona Olympic Games. These vehicles were manufactured by CAF, Meinfesa, GEC-Alsthom and Mitsubishi Electric, and started service in three car composition.

After the Games, they were moved to the line #2, and later on they began to run in five car compositions. Today, these vehicles still run the line #4 service, where they were moved when they were replaced few years ago.

Between 1997 and 2001, fifteen more trainsets (named Class 2100) were delivered to further increase the service given in the line #2, specially after the line was redesigned and some extra stations were added.

The real specifications for this vehicle were (taken from WEFER.COM, in spanish/catalan):

  • Capacity: 862 passengers (5 car set)
  • Top speed: 80 Km/h
